Cooper Commits to the Pack
Posted Sep 10, 2013
The University of Nevada wasted no time in recruiting a potential replacement for Deonte Burton next fall. Eric Cooper, Jr., who attends IMG academy in Calif. and was originally committed to the University of Arizona to play point guard, has given a verbal commitment to play for the Wolf Pack.
Cooper officially visited
last Thursday and had a chance to meet the team.
“It was really good — that made the decision a lot easier by going up there,” Cooper said. “I met all the players, (
) and I hung out and he talked about Nevada.”
Head coach David Carter is a big reason Cooper committed to the Wolf Pack.
“The coach has a plan, I like the guidance in knowing what I’m going to do,” Cooper said. “We play in a good conference and that’s what I really wanted in a school.”
Cooper’s confidence and explosive shooting ability should make him a fan favorite early in his career.
The 6-foot-4 Cooper is described as "a natural scorer with a smooth jump shot...fluid with the ball in his hands and he possesses natural scoring instincts."
“I can shoot the ball very well, I can make the right plays and I know how to run a team,” said a confident Cooper.
On his free time, Cooper loves to play video games, hang out with friends and root for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Cooper compares his game to
but is his shooting stroke as sweet as Curry’s?
“It looks sweet but it’s getting there,” said a giggling Cooper. “But I do have a stroke.”
The California native said he is very excited to play alongside
, Michael Perez and believes he will make an impact his freshmen year.
“That’s why I’m at a prep school preparing for Nevada right now,” Cooper said. “I’m just excited and ready for this opportunity to come in and play and bring confidence to the team to get some wins —that’s what I’m trying to do, win.”
